Case Study

Colorado Flooring Project: The Elizabeth

Fort Collins, located just north of Denver, is a city that represents a perfect combination of modern living and clean western lifestyle. Referred to as a top-ten American community to live in by the countries largest lifestyle and business publications, Fort Collins is a locale soaring in popularity for those searching for beautiful outdoor living accompanied by great work.

While the city’s recent popularity has done wonders for incumbent small business and the community over the years, lack of lodging and sufficient forward-thinking meeting spaces has limited the places in which business and pleasure can become intertwined. In order to create desirable space, city leaders signed off on plans that would deliver a brand new musically inspired and regionally influenced hotel situated in the center of Fort Collins’ Old town. In early 2016, these plans were put into action as construction began on The Elizabeth Hotel — the city’s lone four-star establishment.

The Demands of the Project: Matching Design With Performance

As the primary flooring provider for Hensel-Phelps on the project, our team was brought in, in the summer of 2017 to install all flooring and ceramic wall finishes — over 150,000-square-feet in total. Products were as varied: Lee’s and Durkan carpets, Porcelanosa, Iris, and American Olean, plus dozens of other boutique products from all over the planet — a truly global initiative.

Project demands included accelerated completion schedules with virtually every space having unique finish timelines and installation techniques. Challenges also included last minute changes in many of the overseas sourced materials that required diligent and flexible adaptation to fulfill the artistic and pragmatic visions of  4240 Architecture, DLR Group, and Sage Hospitality.

Our Flooring Solutions

Utilizing specialized installation teams accompanied by account managers with a deep understanding of floor finishes was key in providing the expertise needed to accomplish a project of this magnitude. These resources, working in an environment with stringent quality, environmental, and scheduling discipline, provided a beautiful functional outcome that helped complete the project on time and within budget.

“Years ago, we stayed away from this type of scope because we simply couldn’t bring our clients a good value. With our current install and subject matter expertise in contemporary Division 9 finishes on tap, Spectra Denver is now a powerful and reliable resource for this complex type of work” said Peter Rincione, Spectra Denver President.

The Outcome: A Truly Magnificent Hotel

Welcoming guests for the first time in early December of 2017, the Elizabeth is the place to be, not only in Fort Collins but in the entire rocky mountain region. Whether sipping a coffee in Sunset Lounge overlooking the foothills, grabbing lunch with colleagues at the Emporium Kitchen, or finishing the day with local craft beer and tunes at the Magic Rat Music bar, The Elizabeth has something for just about everyone — all with a beautifully executed design to match!
