Florida Flooring Project: Toronto Blue Jays Training Facility

For more than 40 years, Major League Baseball has had a home in Dunedin, Florida. Chosen as the spring training home for the expansion Toronto Blue Jays in 1977, Dunedin has served as a proud host of Major League Spring Training ever since. Over four decades later, the Blue Jays are the only Major League franchise to have never changed where they play their spring training baseball.

In 2019, the organization decided it was time to expand its boundaries and construction began on an all-new, player development complex featuring a 10,000 sq. ft. weight room, eight locker rooms, two dining rooms, and much, much more.

The Demands of the Project: Matching Design With Performance

As the primary flooring provider for the $1.2 Million flooring project, our team was brought in, in December of 2019 to provide all facility flooring including locker rooms, offices, break areas, and dining rooms — over 38,000-square-feet in total!

Products consisted of Daltile waterproof tiles for the pool area and restrooms, Crossville wall tile, and carpet & LVT by Mohawk.

Our Flooring Solutions

For this particular project, coordination with other trades and having multiple crews & full-time supervision on site was key in keeping this project on time and on schedule.

Implementing strategic value engineering exercises was also key to keeping the project within budget and ensuring the best return on the facility’s flooring budget.

Value engineering is the coordinated and purposeful method of identifying the best-value solutions to fit your budget, design, and facility environment. This method is applicable to all aspects of a construction project. Essentially, it is relying on expert knowledge of materials and matching them up with a set of criteria to determine the maximum benefit in balance between cost, aesthetics, function, and durability.

Our work inside the complex concluded in November of 2020 and will be ready for the start of the upcoming spring training season. For more information on the facility, click here!
