John C. Lincoln Hospital Deer Valley in Phoenix Arizona recently expanded their pediatric care unit with the intent of making it a friendly place for children. This is not your ordinary facility, as the project was designed with bees and butterflies, frogs, turtles, snails, hummingbirds, and other characters of nature in the floor.

Spectra Contract Flooring Phoenix selected Water Jet Works as their source to provide Water Jet cutting of Mannington Essentials V.C Tile. The precision of Water Jet Works and the experience of Spectra Phoenix employee installers resulted in a successful installation to meet the customers' expectations. The project has even appeared in publications such as Healthcare Design.

Spectra Contract Flooring Georgia completed the vivid installation of floor covering for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta through R. J. Griffin, General Contractor. This was a $1 million contract, which included the following flooring materials:

* 7,000 yds of Interface Modular Tile
* 4,000 yds of Mannington sheet vinyl
* 80,000 sq ft of Armstrong VCT and Mannington VCT

Jimmy Tonkin of Spectra Contract Flooring Georgia managed the project, and with his experience he was able to properly estimate and manage the installation of the project. The challenges of the three floors of new construction were to make sure that accurate cuts for each radius and curve were made without any mistakes. Through color and design the installation of these flooring products makes this space so memorable. The creative minds behind this intriguing project are Stanley Beaman Sears, Atlanta, Georgia.

Children's is committed to being a model for pediatric care. In its rankings of pediatric specialties, Child magazine lists Children's in the top five for our cancer, cardiac, neonatal, orthopedic and pulmonary programs.

In 2008, The John G. Rangos, Sr. Research Building marks the first completed phase of the new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC at the new Campus in Lawrenceville.

Over 5 years ago, Spectra Contract Flooring began a working relationship with the Construction Manager, Dick Corporation and with Astorino, the Architect Firm to help design this LEED intended project. Early on in the design phase, Spectra worked very closely with the designers to select appropriate floor finishes. In the 10-story, state of the art, Research Center they went with a blend of resilient and carpet floor finishes including, C&A Carpet, Shaw Carpet, Armstrong Engineered Wood and Forbo Marmoleum. Being LEED intended, Spectra made sure waste was kept to a bare minimum and that the products selected were made up of recycled materials or natural materials. Finally, the effective relationship with Hunt Construction helped make this a successful project.

This more than 300,000 square foot premier research building will serve as the hub for Children's Hospital, UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh to advance the cause of child health through cutting-edge research.

Mon General Hospital is a $92 million expansion and renovation project in Morgantown, West Virginia that will end in 2009.

We have been in the facility since early 2008 and finished in the hospital, summer 2009. The Hospital is a 189 bed community consisting of Teknoflor wood sheet goods in the patient rooms for a home-like feel, Lees Carpet in the corridors for noise reduction and comfort and Medintech sheet goods in the nurse's stations for practicality. The project has been an interesting process which has helped us establish ourselves in the West Virginia market.

 

 

Spectra Contract Flooring Pittsburgh has developed a strong and on-going relationship with the planning, design, and construction team at Ruby Memorial Hospital part of West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, West Virginia. We have worked on multiple projects at the hospital to help demonstrate our quality in service and excellent workmanship.

We did their new 8th floor northeast unit and connector corridors using Armstrong VCT. The area consisted of laying out a detailed diamond pattern in the corridors which turned out fantastic.

We also did their elevator lobbies on three floors of the hospital. We were to use Johnsonite I.D. Premier Luxury Vinyl Tile all in one color and install it in a grid like pattern as specified by the designer, but the Account Manager on the project suggested using a contrasting color in the same material to help highlight the grid like pattern which they went with. In the end, the designer was happy and the elevator lobby areas looked great.

Most recently we worked on the NICU (natal intensive care unit), where our in-house designer, Leslie Waldron helped design three new nursery areas. She was asked to come up with three new "critters" to add to their garden theme unit. We had already cut in a lady bug, flower, turtle, bumble bee and butterfly out of Forbo's Marmoleum on the floor in the different nurseries. This time we went with two ducks, a bunny and two hummingbirds in the same Forbo Marmoleum material. From the hand drawn designs which were put into Spectra's color-coded Callidus program, the hospital made wall decals for the borders of the nurseries too. Now no one can decide on their favorite "critter" when walking through the unit, the next one is better than the last.

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is a 10 acre campus with 1.5 million square feet of usable space situated in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. Local architectural firm, Astorino designed the hospital with patients, families and staff in mind. This can be seen on all nine floors with inviting colors and a home like feel. They used multiple products such as Toli wood-looking sheet goods in the patient rooms, Forbo Marmoleum sheet goods in the corridors and Interface Carpet in the play areas and the staff areas.

We continued our working relationship with Astorino to assure minimal waste and green products were used to help for the LEED intended building. This project was a huge challenge because of the square footage, multiple products and intricate design, but very rewarding. Spectra Contract Flooring recently completed a complex installation of flooring at the new Cardon Children's Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. The total contract value approached $4 million. For numerous weeks Spectra installers worked seven days a week to help Kitchell Contracting meet an aggressive schedule for the medical center to open on time. Listed below are just some of the materials installed in this massive project:

172,000 square feet of Nora rubber tiles.

8,700 square yards of Nora rolled rubber floor.

8,400 square yards of Mannington carpet.

68,000 linear feet of Johnsonite base.

1,700 linear feet of Johnsonite Health care reducers.

110,000 square feet of Koester application.

57,000 square feet of Mannington VCT.

Over 500 Water Jet Icons.

The patient rooms in this facility, which opened in November of 2009, has many unique features. Every room has some form of creative floor pattern. Ursula Bevell of Spectra, managed the details to ensure the flooring was placed accurately in every single patient room. Water Jet Works out of Texas, provided the precision water jet cutting to create all the unique patterns.

Another impressive feature of this facility is the Forever Young Zone which was made possible by NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young. The highly skilled Spectra installers provided the quality workmanship to complete the Nora rubber tile installation in this theater setting.

This project successfully completed by Spectra Phoenix adds to Spectra's impressive resume of Children's Medical facilities across the country which includes the Children's Health care of Atlanta project, and the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Lakeland Regional Medical Center was building a new state of the art cancer center. The hospital was looking to create a blend of coloring and design in the flooring that would dress up the facility. The owner had decided that a standard vinyl tile installation would not accomplish the desired look for the building. Stephen Busbee of Spectra Contract Flooring in Tampa Bay was contacted by the general contractor and asked what the design possibilities would be for standard vinyl tile as well as upgraded solid vinyl flooring.

Spectra was able to upgrade the look of the standard vinyl tile by having numerous designs water jet cut into the tile. The solid vinyl tile had stone and wood styles mixed together in a pattern that would give more of a feeling of visiting a welcoming home and less of a hospital. Spectra was able to man the job with 2 crews working with each flooring material to complete the aggressive schedule with the added designs. Towards the end of the project Spectra had 8-10 crews working throughout the facility. The project was completed on time and Lakeland Regional Cancer Center now has a flooring look like no other.

Spectra Contract Flooring recently completed the flooring installation at new Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona.

This was a $1 million contract, which included the following flooring materials:

* 5,000 yards of Shaw Carpet
* 15,000 yards of Armstrong sheet vinyl
* 82,000 square feet of Armstong VCT
* 45,000 linear feet of Johnsonite tight lock base

The project included the need to address concrete moisture related challenges. The general contractor, Kitchell Contracting, selected Koester as the product to solve this challenge.
