Wild Horse Pass Casino & Hotel- Arizona
Due to a longstanding relationship and successful project history, general contractor for the project, Kitchell Contractors, awarded Spectra Contract Flooring the Wild Horse Pass Casino and Hotel job located in Chandler, Arizona in May 2009. Crews immediately began work in June as the installation window was short due to the peak of the summer heat in the desert. Prior to installation, the concrete surface had to be prepped by bead blasting. Once completed, Spectra began installing the 28,000 square yards of carpet. Over 40 colors were used throughout the hotel and casino. And because of the custom borders and patterns, it was important that installation specialists work closely with designers on placement of the carpet and seaming details.
Custom Tai Ping carpet tile was installed over raised access flooring in the casino gaming areas. Other casino and hotel public spaces featured custom carpet from Tai Ping and Brinton’s. One of the more complicated areas of the project included a fully carpeted, three-level stairway that was located in the indoor amphitheater. Additional carpeted areas included the hotel corridor area which featured Atlas Mills and hotel suites which featured Shaw Contract Group. Materials such as Mannington vinyl plank flooring, Forbo ESD tile, Armstrong VCT and Johnsonite rubber base were also used throughout the property.
Raddison Fort McDowell Resort – Raddison Resort – Phoenix
The Radisson Fort McDowell Resort and Casino in Fountain Hills Arizona, was a significant project in both size and detail. It encompassed over 250 upscale guest rooms and suites, retail stores, ballrooms and conference centers. With a combined 20,000 plus yards supplied by multiple manufacturers, this project in both size and complexity is the type of project Spectra Contract Flooring is accustomed to.
Our installers really knocked this one out of the park, the project started in the month of June and ended in the height of summer here in Arizona. For any one familiar with that type of heat, you can appreciate the quality craftsmanship a whole lot more. Kudos to the installers on this one!
One highlight to this project was the installation of custom woven pattern carpets in the Conference Center and Ballroom areas as well as the guest corridors within the resort. These unique patterns required not only a detailed project manager but a meticulous installer to successfully execute the overall vision of the designer. The guest room and suites carpet was installed over double stick pad then finishing the rooms with over 20,000 linear feet of Johnsonite millwork rubber base, a product the client chose in lieu of traditional wood base.
From custom carpets, to Millwork rubber base, VCT and hand-scraped wood flooring-this project defined the true meaning of Spectra Contract Flooring – a Full Service Flooring Contractor.
Ed Taylor Construction – Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa – Sarasota
On August 13, 2004 Hurricane Charlie slammed into Florida’s Southwest Coast just north of Sanibel Island. Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa, an exquisite four diamond resort, suffered substantial damage. This included virtually all of the floor covering at the resort. The resort was forced to shut down while the necessary repairs were being made. These repairs included replacement of 28,000 sq yds of carpet, much of which was Axminster, 20,000 sq ft of natural stone and porcelain tile, as well as wood, rubber flooring, and vinyl tile. Since the hotel was losing revenue everyday it was closed, the schedule called for all of the work to be completed in just over 3 months on 24 hours shifts alongside of numerous other trades. While most businesses in the area were still assessing the damage, Sanibel Harbour Resort already had a disaster recovery team in place. Based on a superior level of service on previous high profile projects, Spectra Contract Flooring in Tampa was one of the first subcontractors contacted to help with this massive undertaking.
Ed Taylor Construction, the general contractor on the project, placed the call to Spectra one afternoon in September. The project management team of Stephen Busbee and Tom Enright were on site the next morning taking measurements and meeting with the client to address the most immediate needs. Once it was clear that all areas were a top priority, it was understood this job would take multiple crews working all shifts. Spectra sent a full-time on site superintendent from start to finish. The project had 5 dedicated crews from Tampa working 7 days a week. Spectra also utilized its nationwide network of locations and brought in more than 20 installers from around the country to help meet the extremely aggressive schedule. The countless hours of hard work and determination from everyone on the project team from Spectra allowed Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa to be one of the first resorts to reopen in the area.
City of Frisco – Frisco Convention Center – Dallas
The City of Frisco is one of the largest growing cities in the United States and proudly opened its new 110,000 SF Convention Center in late 2005. The overall project scope included a main ballroom of 40,000 SF with 20 Meeting Rooms, 25,000 SF of open corridors, kitchen facilities and the Administration Offices.
Spectra Contract Flooring was chosen for the project six months prior to the ground breaking based on our ability to perform the scope of work has required, in addition to our strong relationship with the product manufacturers involved in the project.
The common areas of the Convention Center involved the installation of over 125 insets, 3,000 LF of custom carpet borders and six 30′ round medallions. The Convention Center main floor was the focal point of the project totaling over 4,000 individual tiles, all of which were numbered and sequenced to insure proper placement.
The project originally allowed five weeks for the installation of the various flooring products; when in reality due to some unforeseen construction delays turned into less than four weeks to complete a very difficult, tedious and precise installation. Events had already been scheduled for the convention space. Working around the clock, under the direction of Tommy Hitchcock the job schedule was not only met, but was completed 48 hours ahead of schedule.
John Q. Hammons Hotel Corp. & CDI Contractors – Embassy Suites – Dallas
John Q. Hammons Hotel Corporation embarked on a plan to open a new “prototype” Embassy Suites property in North Texas. In partnership with CDI Contractors they approached Spectra Contract Flooring to be their hand chosen flooring installer for this exciting 14 story, 303 room hotel and spa located just north of Dallas. This new state of the art property for the Hammons Corporation was to include an upscale interior finish out demanded by today’s corporate and resort clientele.
Only one phone call was made in the selection of their flooring sub-contractor, Tommy Hitchcock along with the Spectra-Dallas team answered that call. CDI Contractors expected their flooring partner to meet a very aggressive and demanding schedule, while managing and warehousing over 17 different custom carpets totaling over 30,000 SY. The project included a stretch in over pad in all the hotel rooms, a double stick installation in all the common areas, 3 restaurants, 2 bars and 17 conference rooms and SPA area.
The project began in the rain transporting and staging materials by floor with the use of an open air exterior construction elevator. The project itself ran for a period of six months requiring a countless number of man hours through weekends and several “all night” installations. In the end Spectra Contract Flooring was singled out by CDI and Hammons Corporation as the only contractor to bring their scope in “on time, within budget” and a final punch list with less than 10 items.
From this well earned accomplishment, it was our honor and privilege to have been asked to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the hotel’s grand opening and welcome the first guests to the facility.
