University of Pittsburgh – Peterson Event Center – Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh, a leader in higher education located in Pittsburgh, PA chose Spectra Contract Flooring as their flooring dealer when renovating their lobby at the Peterson Event Center.
Spectra Pittsburgh has a long standing relationship with the University, so when awarded this project we were excited and prepared to meet their high standards. The lobby was installed with Fritz Tile centered around a laser cut ‘PITT’ logo also out of the Fritz Tile.
The event center is host to many sporting events and various concert events, along with thousands of people walking on the floor daily. A true testament of time because the lobby still looks as good as the day it was installed.
Everett Public Schools – Forest View Elementary School – Seattle
In the summer of 2007, Spectra Contract Flooring Seattle completed a project for Everett Public Schools. Spee West was chosen as the General Contractor. This project was on a tight time line due to the need to have the building complete for the opening of school. The work was completed timely allowing students to occupy the building without any interruption.
The project scope included a myriad of products including broadloom carpet, carpet tile, ceramic tile, VCT, Teraflex Sport Flooring, and rubber safety floor.
This project included one of the first installations of Shaw Industries Inc.’s new Ecoworx Performance 12 ‘ Broadloom. This product is unique in that it is 100% recoverable, is heat weldable at the seams, and is moisture impervious, all without PVC. Members of Shaw’s Technical Staff were on site throughout the installation to ensure that the installation went flawlessly.
The Ohio State University – Thompson Library – Columbus
The Spectra (Columbus) Team, led by Randy Lyon, was awarded the opportunity to embark on this extraordinary project, one of which required a lot of allegiance and skill. The project was a three-year renovation that started in the fall of 2006 and was completed and turned back over to the OSU Libraries on May 1, 2009. The renovated Thompson Library is the centerpiece of a plan to move The Ohio State University into the forefront of academic excellence. The project included installation of a dynamic mix of Terrazzo, Cork, Polish Ceramic Tile, Resilient Tile, Solid Strip Wood, Parquet Wood, Woven Broadloom Carpet, and Carpet tile floorings. Spectra’s installation allowed them to move into the forefront with style. After much dedication from the Installers and Team Spectra this renovation came together perfectly and was a huge success.
“Designed in the Second Italian Renaissance Revival style by the Boston firm of Allen and Collens, the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library, also known as the Main OSU Library opened in 1913. As grand as the new building was, it soon began to reach the limits of its capacity to serve the needs of the growing university.
In 1998, a Library Task Force appointed by Provost Ed Ray and chaired by Professor Sebastian Knowles completed their report. “What the Task Force would like to propose is something extraordinary. We have in mind a newly imagined Main Library refashioned from the original Main Library building that would provide the University a center for its academic mission.”

Yarborough Development, Inc. – University High School – Pittsburgh
University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia began with a few setbacks. The school was due to open at the beginning of the school year in August, but was pushed back four months.
The High School is two stories with about 150,000 square feet of Azrock tile and over 2,500 yards of Shaw carpet installed on the floors. They chose to use their school colors consisting of Scarlet Red, Yellow Gold and White as their color scheme and the design details were in the pattern layouts. The corridors were layed out in white VCT with splashes of color, the cafeteria was laid out in a diamond pattern and the standout designs were the two school logos at the front and back entrances to the high school. A problem almost occurred when the water-jet cut logos arrived at our shop damaged. With no time to delay, the installers took the challenge to show off their expertise in the field and even hand cut some of the pieces to replace the damaged tile. The true craftsmanship of our installers can be seen in the school’s logos.
University High School officially opened its doors on December, 3, 2008.
Cedar Hill 9th Grade Traditional – Dallas
This was a new construction multi-level school where the total square footage was not being used initially because the school district designed the school for future growth. With that strategy came some challenges in the overall architectural design along with the designated use of the space. Through many change orders and design changes we managed to install over 150,000 SF of vinyl tile flooring, 8,000 SY of broadloom carpet and 2,160 SF of athletic flooring.
When the final changes were made and agreed upon, Spectra-Dallas had another job that truly reflects the quality and craftsmanship that we have worked so hard to achieve. Again, as a direct result of our work scope we now maintain a working relationship with the nationally recognized general contractor both in the educational and financial market segments.

University of Pittsburgh – The Cathedral of Learning – Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh once again called on Spectra Contract Flooring when renovating multiple rooms/floors in the Cathedral of Learning, a beautiful historical building on campus.
The Cathedral of Learning is home to numerous offices, classrooms and computer labs and they were in need of updating. Spectra Pittsburgh helped with custom carpet with the ‘PITT’ logo on it for a computer lab, a streamline design out of VCT in front of the Department of Theatre Arts, and another custom carpet for a corridor of offices.
Spectra Pittsburgh completed another successful renovation at the University of Pittsburgh on time and under budget.
University of Pittsburgh – Hillman Library – Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh in 2006 decided to revamp their library into a more comfortable and inviting space for their students to study and relax.
While on the project, Spectra’s challenge was to install the carpet tile over VAT (vinyl asbestos tile). To fix the problem we had to first apply a burrier coating before beginning installation of the carpet tile.
The end result at the Hillman Library is a mix of Interface Entropy Carpet Tile and Interface Entry Level Carpet Tile. The calming colors and simple design of the carpet tile help to enhance the fine art and architecture in the building.
